Thomas Edison said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Well that certainly holds true for me. I tell people that I know what to do, I just have to put my mind to it. That’s partially true. I know many things that work for me, but I haven’t figured it all out.
For example, I know:
· I can’t eat a lot of carbs in the morning. It just sets me up for cravings later on.
· I need to eat protein at every meal and snack to keep hunger at bay.
· I need to eat every few hours, especially in the mornings because I teach so many classes and I know my breakfast isn’t enough to keep me going through to lunch.
· When I eat dinner at 5:00, I am going to be hungry by 8:00.
· I can’t say a food is off limits, because that’s when I crave it and overeat.
· I have to prepackage any snacks at home to keep the portions the correct size.
· I have to wash and prepare my fruits and veggies as soon as I get home or I will not eat them.
· That I can’t go into “that” grocery store or I will walk out with unhealthy choices.
· I can’t go shopping when hungry or partially hungry.
· I need to plan my meals and grocery list in advance.
I don’t know:
· How many calories my body needs on an average day to maintain (and subsequently lose) weight.
· How to not eat an entire bag/box/package of snacks in two days or less.
· How to not buy the previously mentions snacks and keep them out of the house.
· How to have a snack at night because I’m truly hungry, not bored.
· How to make said snack healthy, not high fat/high calorie junk.
· How to identify hunger and not eat when bored, tired, grumpy and so on.
· What to do in the afternoons and evenings instead of doing things where I can eat while doing them (reading, watching TV).
· How to not let the scale rule my mood for the day.
Clearly, I still have a lot of work to do. It appears to be mostly in my head where the work needs to be done. I will get there. Eventually…..
