No Time Like The Present

I’ll start on Monday.  I’ll start after I come back from my vacation.  I’ll start once my kids go to school.  I’ll start…..  Any of these sound familiar?  Why not start now?  And when the going gets tough and you fall off the wagon, start over as soon as you can.  Don’t let one (or two) binges become many and ruin any progress you have made.

This is way easier said than done.  Every time I “cheat” I feel as if I have failed and why bother.  Even when I planned this weight loss with “cheats” being ok, I still feel like I might as well give up.  I am using quotes around cheat because there is actually no cheating in a healthy diet as long as you are eating in moderation and watch your portion size, and yet as soon as I have something I feel is not 100% healthy, I feel like I have let myself down once again.  It’s a hard cycle to stop.  I’ll let you know when I figure it out.
If you are overweight and haven’t started yet, what is stopping you?  Do you like yourself the size you are?  There is nothing wrong with self-confidence, but if your health at risk perhaps you should re-think your situation.  Do you like food too much to give up your favorites?  (Me too!)  However, you don’t have to give everything up, just modify serving sizes and plan ahead for big meals or parties.  Do you think you will have to exercise hours a day?  It’s not necessary to spend all of your time at the gym.  You can be active in other ways: garden, go for walks, play with your kids, park further away from your destination, go for a bike ride….  There are many ways to add more activity into your life.
