Did you miss me? Actually, don’t answer that. It has been a while since I posted. Nothing much has changed, certainly not my weight….
Do you get cravings? I sure do! For a week or so, I have been craving something, but I can’t figure out what. Last night I walked through the biggest grocery store in town and nothing appealed. That’s really rare. Usually something will do. Generally anything will do. I did see some cookies that looked tasty. Sure, if 170 calories per cookie was ok. If they were the size of a pizza, that would have been fine, but these were small. Who eats just one cookie? If you do, why are you reading this? Go eat your one cookie and enjoy it. Pfft!! I eat in quantity (sometimes quality). The other thing that caught my eye, kind of, was cinnamon buns. Now I KNOW that these are high in calories and perhaps just one would suffice, but 500 calories? I am sooooooo glad they finally are putting calorie counts on even the store’s baked goods. Even I couldn’t rationalize those treats and I’m really good at rationalizing anything. So, I left the store empty handed. Well, no snack for me, I did get my husband what he requested (almost 500 calories each too!). Before you pat me on the back congratulating me for my willpower, remember I was craving something….I thought I had it figured out so I did buy what I “needed”(in my mind). Turns out, I’m not craving anything anymore, so I could have been right. And I did feel sick after from what I figure is too much sugar in one sitting. Perhaps I learned a lesson? We’ll see the next time I’m craving something whether I give in or maybe just have one….
There are many tips I could get out of this post: Don’t keep unhealthy snacks in the house (wander a grocery store looking for them instead?). Try to wait out a craving (I did, I waited days and the craving grew!) Experts say wait 20 minutes and the craving may pass. Skinny experts maybe…. Read the labels (I did this one and probably saved 500 calories!) But the tip I am going to pass on I need to do too: Cut out the sugar and white carbs! It’s true that in the last few months, I have been avoiding many sugary items, just not all. I have tried to do this lifestyle change with just a few tweaks, in order to not feel hungry or deprived and give up. But in order to get rid of my cravings, I need to cut those out totally for a few weeks and add very little back in. I know this works and subconsciously I think I have been trying to avoid doing this, thinking that cutting my calories a bit and upping my exercise would work. Go figure! I know what works for me and yet I am trying anything but.
