As part of my plan for losing weight (healthy), I wanted to add some activities
with my family on the weekends. This weekend we had two planned. Trail riding on a bicycle
on Saturday and swimming on Sunday.
Well, as many plans go, this one
also went awry. Saturday started out OK. We got the bikes on my new bike
carrier attached to my new trailer hitch (by "we", I mean my husband did). We got
to the trails and started. That's when it all went downhill, and not literally. I
had never been trail riding before and in fact I prefer the cyclefit bikes at
the Y over any other riding. The rocks, sticks, stumps and tiny trail were
awful! I couldn't look anywhere but two feet in front of me hoping to not fall
off my bike and break something. Also, apparently I could have used a lesson on
my gears, as I couldn't change on the fly for fear of losing my life. Did I
mention my bike is relatively new and I hadn't used a bike since my teens before
I got it? (I find out once we get home, I was riding in one of the highest
gears the whole time). And by "the whole time", I mean the shortest trail. I
couldn't take it any more. That was, for me, horrible! As our ride was cut short
by my whininess (sp?), we went on a quick hike after. And even went for a
family walk after dinner for probably the second time ever (that all four of us
went).
Sunday wasn't much better plan-wise. I ended up going in for
yoga, not swimming, and was way early for class. That's OK though, I used my time wisely
by working out before my class (and longer than I would have after).
The
former me wouldn't have gotten off the couch much except to get snacks and to charge my
phone most weekends. The lesson here is: make alternate plans or even change
them on the fly, just get off the couch..... I wonder how my competition is doing? I bet most of them would like trail bike riding.
Day 6, 33 to go
