The End of a Week

It takes me a few days to organize my menu for the week.  I go grocery shopping once a week, generally Friday, Sunday at the latest.  I (or my kids) wash and cut the fruits and vegetables on the weekends, because I know myself: If they aren’t ready to eat, they rot and get thrown out.  That actually never happens anymore, because I hate wasting money and food and I know better now.
Here is what my fridge looked like after shopping and preparing all of the fruits and vegetables (the beer and pop are not mine btw, they are my skinny husband’s and he is familiar with moderation regarding eating, unlike myself).  The big square container is full of veggies as are both of the crispers.  I keep the fruit on the counter and in the container beside the milk.  The Source yogurt isn't ours because we don't eat artificial sweeteners.  It was left by my Mom after she babysat.  Unfortunately, I didn’t leave room for my lunches.  The freezer isn't as full though, so they will go in there.

Saturday and/or Sunday’s are also my day to prep for the week.  I try to make sure I have my lunches prepared and in the fridge or freezer.  I plan dinners a week in advance and I almost always eat the same breakfast of cottage cheese and applesauce with cinnamon.  I find the protein in that meal is the only thing that keeps me full until lunch and the calories are low which leave me room for an evening snack.  I know, evening snacks aren’t necessary but as I have mentioned in many posts, it is a habit and I haven’t managed yet to break it.  So, at least I plan for it.  I’ve read that eating a bigger breakfast helps avoid the need for an evening snack, but it hasn’t worked for me yet.  Every time I try, I just end up eating more at breakfast and still have the snack at night, and extra calories are the last thing I need.  Also the facts that I know for sure: it’s a habit and dinner is generally around 5pm because of kid’s activities, a bigger breakfast may not help in my situation.

The weeks that I do all of the above and we’re not too busy for me to prep/wash/plan generally go well.  It’s the unplanned events that I can’t get figured out: dinner out (rare now, so I feel it’s a “treat”).  Bad days where all I want are chips or ice cream and go buy some, only to have the rest left in the house and then I have no control and finish it off quickly.  Special candy, for example: Dollarama jelly beans at Easter, hypothetically speaking (I wish) that I won’t see for another year.  Not taking time for lunch or an afternoon (healthy) snack causing me to binge later that day (see above where I buy stuff and…)
It is getting better.  I can tell on the scale and more obviously for me; in how my clothes fit.  More on that next post.
