So I went to a training seminar last week for work and not
only learned some great ideas I can apply at work, but some tips for me and my
challenge. The training was on choices and changes.
We discussed how to help
people work out their problems on their own without adding our advice as soon
as they open their mouths. Great
material I can use at work, home and for myself. The way I can apply it
personally came in one of our practice sessions where someone had to ask me
what was something I would like to accomplish. I chose losing weight. Through our discussion, just by being asked
the right questions, I (we) figured out that there are two things I can do in
the immediate future to help me to lose weight. One solution was to put the
scale away and only weigh myself weekly or less. I know this. In fact, I have
mentioned this before, but saying it out loud made me realize that perhaps it's
time to try that again. The other tip I realized earlier last week and knew
long ago as well. But, when telling someone (who then asked if I could try it
for just a week), a light bulb seemed to go off and it felt doable. So I
decided to try to not bring any junk into my house for a week either. Both of
these tips I have tried before and I know they work, but saying them out loud
to strangers made me feel more accountable. I'm ready to try almost anything
now. Any more ideas?
A week later….They both worked! I think what worked the best for me was that
I kept telling myself it was only for one week.
I went without the scale for a week and did not bring junk into the
house. The pantry is quite bare of “snacks”. It’s been an eye opener for the junk. I have realized that it’s quite a bad habit
of mine to go home and snack and snack at night. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact I
think snacks are completely necessary in order to not get too hungry. Healthy snacks however…
